A simple visual reference is often the easiest way to explain suspension geometry without giving everyone a headache. Contrary to popular belief, lowering a vehicle does not automatically improve its cornering stability simply because the center of gravity is lower. When a vehicle is lowered, the angles of its control arms and steering linkages also change. This can alter the suspension’s roll-center geometry, increase body roll, reduce steering precision, and introduce bump steer. Bump steer occurs when suspension movement causes the wheels to steer without any input from the driver. It is often felt as a sudden pull or jerk through the steering wheel when driving over bumps or uneven pavement.
